Maureen Andary 9/18, 10/24
Experience the realm of cabaret artist Maureen Andary as she explores themes of modernity, love, longing, and self-medication. Her debut album, Nostalgia, is a steamy plate of 1930s style sounds peppered with modern-day imagery, concepts, and punchlines. In 2008 Maureen was awarded a Young Emerging Artist grant by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities to produce her debut album, Nostalgia. She was selected as a finalist in the 2008 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, presented by Folk Alliance, one of the premier showcases of emerging musical talent in North America. Maureen sings classic jazz and blues as well as original songs that are inspired by the chord changes of 1930s pop music. A native Washingtonian, she studied classical flute and voice as a teenager, performing in musical theatre productions, choirs, and instrumental ensembles. She discovered her affinity for classic jazz and blues while a student at New York University. She is a regular performer at Washington area clubs, festivals, and other venues.
